Online Formats Rise as Influencers Take Over Bulgarian Entertainment

In today's digital landscape, influencers are becoming the new celebrities, amassing millions of followers and gradually overshadowing traditional television as the preferred source of entertainment. This trend is evident in Bulgaria, where influencers are stepping into the limelight with online content that directly competes with TV.

Trade Ministry slaps ‘influencers’ with fines

The Trade Ministery's Advertisement Board has imposed a total of 6.4 million Turkish Liras in fines on 11 social media influencers.

The board, which has been scrutinizing advertisements on social media platforms, slapped five influencers with fines last year and another six this year.

Authorities launched the Artificial Screening of Social Media Ads Project in March 2022.

Influencers, popular websites come under tax scrutiny

The intense social media activity of certain popular influencers has led the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) to inspect those who directly or indirectly advertise products. The focus is on whether the income they earn from advertising products on Instagram, TikTok and Facebook is declared in their tax returns.
