Eurogroup President Donohoe in Athens

Eurogroup President Paschal Donohoe, who is Ireland's Minister for Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery, and Reform, is due to visit Athens on Monday and Tuesday to participate in a conference on the Greek economy on April 4 entitled "Resilience, Progress, Perspective", which is hosted by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Greek credit system ‘able to absorb foreign jitters’

The Greek banking system is clearly in a much better position now to absorb any turbulence from international markets than it was four years ago, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Thursday, commenting on global banking system tensions caused by the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and the crisis at Credit Suisse.

Addressing an event held in his home town Lamia in his honor, after he was named Finance Minister of the Year 2023 for Europe by the FT group's Banker magazine, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras stressed that the distinction awarded to him was "not just personal but primarily collective."

Staikouras: ‘Greece has turned a page’

"Greece has made it. Greece has turned a page," Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Friday at an Economist event in Athens.

Staikouras said growth results looked to be higher than expected, with the European Commission envisaging an economic growth double the rate of the European average in 2022 and even higher in 2023.

ESM calls for prudence and reforms

Greece needs to follow prudent fiscal policy and continue reforms in order to ensure the confidence of the markets, Pierre Gramegna, the new executive director of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), pointed out on Thursday following his meeting in Athens with Finance Minister Christos Staikouras.
