Just when we had carved the month of June into our collective conscience as the month that sparked the biggest mass protests Turkey had ever seen, June has boosted its historical importance with the recent elections.

Istanbul?s former governor Hüseyin Avni Mutlu was fined 10,000 Turkish Liras for accusing a then-17-year-old Dilan Alp of being a member of ?marginal groups? during the May Day protests of 2013, during which she was hit in the head by a tear gas canister shot by the police.

Defendants indirectly accused each other in the first court hearing on June 12 in the Tarsus district of the Mediterranean province of Mersin in the case into the brutal murder of Özgecan Aslan, the 20-year-old whose body was found in a river bed two days after she was killed by a minibus driver on Feb. 11.

As many as 1,000 attorneys are expected to represent Özgecan Aslan in the very first court hearing on June 12 in the case over her brutal murder. The 20-year-old's burned body was found in a river bed in the Mediterranean province of Mersin two days after she was killed by a minibus driver on Feb. 11.

A suspect of twin bombings at the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) branches in southern Turkey was previously detained in 2007 for his links to Turkey's outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front (DHKP-C), the Turkish interior ministry said May 21. 

A Dutch traveler has said that she escaped an attempted sexual assault in western Turkey, breaking her arm.
