TV screens in Greece go blank as digital provider suffers technical glitch

Television screens around Greece went blank around 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday as the country's digital signal provider, Digea, said it was trying to repair a "serious technical glitch."

The only channels that continued broadcasting were state television NERIT and Parliament's Vouli.

Analogue signal stopped for some 4 million TV viewers

Some 4 million TV viewers in Attica, the Saronic islands, central and northern Evia and some parts of the Cyclades had to retune their sets on Friday as analogue broadcasts in these areas stopped.

Changes to digital broadcasts meant that viewers who already received a digital signal also had to update their channel lists.

Thousands of TV viewers to lose analogue signal Friday

Thousands of TV viewers in Attica, the Saronic islands, central and northern Evia and some parts of the Cyclades will receive a digital signal for the first time on Friday, when analogue broadcasts to these parts of Greece stop.

The switch is also set to affect thousands of others who already receive digital broadcasts.
