Minister calls for resignations over television blackout

Alternate Minister of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Christos Spirtzis on Tuesday called for the resignation of the entire Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) following a television blackout that lasted several hours earlier in the day.

Most parts of Greece on Tuesday could not get a signal for major channels such as Mega, Skai, Antenna and Star after signal provider Digea experienced a technical glitch.

Responsibility for the blackout, Spirtzis said, lies exclusively with Digea, which, as a private operator, is monitored by EETT.

He added that EETT has a duty to ensure that all providers abide by their contracts and that services meet the technical and quality standards set by the Greek state.

Only state broadcasters NERIT and Vouli continued as usual.
