Professor Edith Hall, an influential scholar of Classics and inveterate traveler, shares her insights on the ancient Greek world, her personal experience of Greece, and the links between the Greek landscape and myth. She was interviewed on the occasion of the publication in Greek translation (by Dioptra) of "Introducing the Ancient Greeks," first published in June 2014.

Ancient aqueduct restored and opened in Samos

A photograph made available on Tuesday shows the inside of the tunnel of the Eupalinian Aqueduct in Pythagorio on the island of Samos, after its restoration. The work on the 1,036-meter tunnel was completed on Monday, reopening to the public the 6th century BC monument, which is regarded as one of the most important technical works of ancient times. Acclaimed English author Victoria Hislop presents her new novel, "Cartes Postales from Greece," published in a Greek translation by Dioptra, at the Fougaro cultural complex in Nafplio on Saturday, November 5. On the occasion of the book presentation, Yiannis Stamos, head of the Anthos Library, will hold a discussion with the author in Greek. The event is set to commence at 7.30 p.m.

Celebrated UK writer Victoria Hislop puts down roots in central Athens

British author Victoria Hislop is a resident of Athens these days. She had been passionately trying to develop her ties with Greece ever since I met her some years ago – at the time her first book, “The Island,” had just been published by Dioptra Publications in Greek. I recall her saying to me back then that she wished she had some kind of Greek roots.
