Tesla fired hundreds of employees in past week - report

Luxury electric vehicle maker Tesla Inc fired about 400 employees this week, including associates, team leaders and supervisors, a former employee told Reuters on Friday.

The dismissals were a result of a company-wide annual review, Tesla said in an emailed statement, without confirming the number of employees leaving the company.

Disgraced defense minister plans to host holiday reception

Defense Minister Bratislav Gasic, whose dismissal has been announced, expects to be in office next week and host a reception.

The event to mark New Year and Christmas holidays has been scheduled for next Tuesday, with invitations sent out listing Gasic and Serbian Army (VS) chief Ljubisa Dikovic as the hosts.

Alpha Bank launches voluntary dismissal program

Greece's fourth-largest lender, Alpha Bank on Monday announced that it is launching a voluntary dismissal program as part of cost-cutting efforts, the state-run Athens-Macedonia News Agency said.

Employees at the bank have until September 30 to apply for the program or face possible sacking.

Workers on short-term contracts are not eligible for the program.

Court orders Greek gov't to rehire 10 sacked ERT workers

An Athens court of first instance ruled on Tuesday that the government was wrong to fire 10 employees of former public broadcaster ERT last year and that they should be given their jobs back.

The judge instructed the government to rehire the workers on the same salaries they received before ERT was shut down in June 2013, to be eventually replaced by a new broadcaster, NERIT.

Laid-off cleaners to protest outside police headquarters

Laid-off cleaning staff from Greece's Finance Ministry will on Tuesday stage a protest outside the Police headquarters in Athens in solidarity with three of their colleagues testifying on charges of disturbing the peace and of assault causing bodily harm during clashes with police officers on July 10.

Civil service sacks 524 employees for range of offenses

A total of 524 public servants have been dismissed from the civil service since the beginning of 2013 after being found guilty of a wide range of offenses, chiefly disciplinary misdeeds such as fraud and violation of duty, but also crimes including attempted manslaughter and trading in child pornography, according to official data released on Wednesday.
