Risk of Power Outages in Western Bulgaria as Employees Resign Over Low Wages

Tensions are mounting at Bulgaria's West Electricity Distribution Networks JCS (Elektrorazpredelitelni mreji Zapad AD) as numerous emergency team employees have submitted resignation applications, citing dissatisfaction with low salaries. The resignations pose a serious risk of prolonged power outages in ten regions just before the holiday season.

Police trade union takes action to warn about abuse

Ljubljana – The SPS police trade union has submitted to parliament an initiative to collect signatures from citizens in support of amendments to the employment relationships act that would make conditions for reprimanding employees before dismissal stricter and more specific. The SPS warns the disciplinary measure has been abused in the police force.

Public broadcaster TV Slovenija director Natalija Gorščak dismissed

Ljubljana – The director general of public broadcaster RTV Slovenija Andrej Grah Whatmough has dismissed Natalija Gorščak, the director of TV programmes, after accusing her of violating bylaws and allowing ratings to plummet. Gorščak, who is on sick leave, said she had received the notice of dismissal via courier.

Court recognizes contract work for employee, cancels dismissal

A lower court in Athens sided with an employee who worked with successive fixed-term employment contracts in a kindergarten from 2007 to 2018, ruling that these contracts constitute a single contract of indefinite duration.

The court argued that, in this case, the woman covered continuous needs of the employer which did not justify the signing of fixed-term contracts.

Gov't reimburses to companies 41.5 pct of salary of employees returning from furlough

The Government will reimburse employers, for a period of 3 months, a percentage of 41.5 pct of the monthly gross wage of each worker that has his/her previously suspended work contract reactivated, a release sent on Friday to AGERPRES by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, reads.
