Labor Inspections Underway after Death of Miner in Manganese Mine in NE Bulgaria

Labor inspections are underway at the Obrochishte manganese mine in northeast Bulgaria, where a 39-year-old worker died on Tuesday in a rockfall.

Krasimira Spasova, interim director of the Dobrich-based unit of the General Labor Inspectorate Executive Agency, explained Wednesday in an interview for Darik radio that a team of labor inspectors was examining the site of the accident.

Miner Dies, Another Injured After Rocks Collapse Near Bulgaria's Balchik

A miner died, while another was injured on Tuesday after rocks collapsed in a manganese-extracting mine in the Bulgarian village of Tsarkva, near the town of Balchik.

The first man died on the spot after being hit by a falling rock even though he was wearing a helmet, daily Dnevnik reports.

Archaeologists Unearth Bronze Belt Of Bulgar Warrior

Archaeologists excavating a fortress near Bulgaria's north eastern town of Dobrich unearthed bronze elements from a belt of a Bulgar warrior, reports the Standart daily.

Archaeologist Boyan Totev told journalists that this is the first such find by archaeologists in Bulgaria. Parts of another belt has been found by treasure hunters, again near Dobrich.

Bulgarian Govt to Allocate BGN 16M for Natural Disaster Recovery

Ministers will review and pass a decree for the approval of additional costs and transfers of BGN 16,204,360 at Wednesday's session, the press office of the government announced.

The funds will be allocated mainly to municipalities for the prevention, management and overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.

The Bulgarian seaside resorts are one quarter empty, even though it's the peak of season, reports the local Standart daily.

According to hotel owners at the Black Sea coast the season was unusually weak and they are forced to offer discount prices in an effort to attract tourists. 

They expect that August, which is usually the busiest month, will be even worse.
