Giannis Smaragdis has just become the first Greek director to be elected as a full member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. “I consider it a great honor to be elected by the European Academy of Sciences and Arts as a member in the field of Arts and Culture. I perceive this distinction as a triple duty,” said the director among other remarks.

The Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens presents "The State Hermitage Museum: Gateway to History," an exhibition of works from the permanent collections of the renowned Saint Petersburg museum. The exhibition opens on Wednesday, November 2, and runs through February 26, 2017.

El Greco's painting of the Apostles Peter and Paul is displayed at the Christian and Byzantine Museum in Athens as part of "The State Hermitage Museum: Gateway to History" exhibition, which opens to the public Tuesday. Running to February next year, the temporary display showcases 80 pieces from the Russian museum's permanent collections, including antiquities, paintings and sculptures.

Two new unique creations by noted Greek sculptor Nikos Floros will be exhibited at the imposing Smolny Cathedral in St. Petersburg next year, part of several events in 2015 commemorating the Year of Greek-Russian Friendship in both nations.

Istanbul's ISO Art Gallery is set to host a painting exhibition by Solange Greco, wife of the consul-general of Brazil in Istanbul. Titled "Remains of My Life in Istanbul and Elsewhere," the exhibition will open on July 14. 

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Piraeus Mayor Yiannis Moralis will attend the official premier of noted Greek composer Giorgos Hatzinasios’ opera “El Greco”, which on Tuesday at Piraeus’ recently renovated neo-classical Municipal Theatre.
