Minister announces "change of electoral system"

BELGRADE -- Deputy PM and Public Administration and Local Self-Government Minister Kori Udovicki has announced "changes to the electoral system on all levels."

Speaking over the weekend, she noted that that a combination of "majoritarian and proportional electoral systems" was #the best solution."

Avoiding disaster

No one should underestimate the importance of Sunday’s European Parliament elections. Voter abstinence as well as unconsidered voting simply cannot be justified.

One way or another the upcoming confrontation has turned into a viability test for the coalition government.

Bulgarian Interior Ministry to Open Electoral Fraud Hotline

The hotline will be open until the end of the European elections day on May 25, Chief Interior Secretary Svetlozar Lazarov revealed. Any violations that are reported will be submitted to the Prosecution.

"Election silence" in force ahead of voting on Sunday

BELGRADE -- Participants in the March 16 early parliamentary elections and local elections in Belgrade and several other towns have wrapped up their campaigns.

They are now prohibited from campaigning and this ban will be in place until the polling stations close at 20:00 CET on Sunday.

Dignity and common sense

Opinion polls ahead of Greece’s regional and municipal elections in May as well as the results from various ballots held recently by professional associations indicate that the partisan lines of the past are mostly irrelevant.

Only a very small minority of people are still voting on the basis of narrow party interests or good old ideological dividing lines.
