Attacker jailed after fatally shooting police officer in Istanbul

A court has arrested an assailant after fatally shooting a police officer during a violent altercation that followed his detention for motorcycle theft in Istanbul.

Late on Sept. 22, 19-year-old Yunus Emre Geçti fled from a police station in the Ümraniye district after being taken into custody for theft.

Bar not high in Mitsotakis, Erdogan talks

Expectations are low ahead of Tuesday's meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. 

Indicative of the difficulties is a reminder by Turkey's energy minister, Alparslan Bayraktar, of Ankara's firm positions on Eastern Mediterranean issues.

UN sustainable development chief endorses Türkiye's pioneering zero waste initiative

Jeffrey Sachs, president of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, endorsed the Global Zero Waste Declaration of Goodwill, signing it after a meeting with Turkish First Lady Emine Erdoğan in New York, the Turkish Presidency announced Monday.

The meeting took place at the Turkish House during Erdoğan's visit for the 79th U.N. General Assembly. 

Erdoğan likens Israel to 'terrorist organization'

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sharply criticized Israel on Sept. 21, accusing it of acting like a "terrorist organization" in its ongoing attacks on Gaza.

"Once again, unfortunately, Israel is not organizing attacks like a state, but like a terrorist organization," Erdoğan said at Atatürk Airport ahead of his trip to the U.S. for a U.N. General Assembly meeting.
