Greece have opened their Group A matches for the 2017 Eurobasket championships in Helsinki, Finland with a comfortable 90-61 victory over Iceland. In the match played earlier in the first group Slovenia beat Poland 90-81. Greece are scheduled to face France on Saturday in their toughest match of group stage.

Greece are leading Iceland (37-33) in their Group A opening match for the 2017 Eurobasket championship in Finland.

BASKETBALL: The Greek women's team finished fourth in the 2017 Eurobasket in the Czech Republic as it lost to France 77-55 in Saturday's semifinal and 78-45 to Belgium in the third-place game on Sunday. Greece ended up fourth for the first time ever and made it to next summer's World Championship in Spain.

Women Eurobasket, the Greek national basketball team is playing against Turkey for the semi-finals of the Women’s Eurobasket 2017.

At half time Greece leads with 36-30.

The Greek women basketball team defeated the strong Serbian team (69-60) in their group C match on the opening day of the 2017 Eurobasket championships. Spanou led the Greek team with 18 points, followed by Maltsi with 16.

ISTANBUL - The Serbia men's national basketball team was on Tuesday drawn to play Turkey, Russia, Latvia, Belgium and Great Britain in Group D of EuroBasket 2017 in Istanbul.

The draw ceremony was held in Istanbul, which will also host the final stage of the competition.

MIES - Serbia is one of 11 candidates to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, the FIBA website said.

Apart from Serbia, Argentina, Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Philippines, Poland, Russia and Turkey also made their bids.
