European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo

BELGRADE – Serbian Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said Friday that he had requested an urgent meeting with representatives of EULEX and KFOR following an attack on police officers in the Ground Safety Zone in the Kursumlija municipality on Thursday.

“I expect that it (the meeting) will take place in Belgrade in the next few days,” Stefanovic said for Belgrade-based TV Pink.

ZVECAN - Reacting to yet another extension of custody for leader of the Citizens’ Initiative “Freedom, Democracy, Justice” (GI SDP) Oliver Ivanovic, his lawyer Nebojisa Vlajic said Wednesday that the head of EULEX was interfering in the work of judicial authorities in Kosovo, as he had been announcing that extension for a few days before the decision had been made.

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - The Citizens' Initiative "Freedom, Democracy, Justice" (GI SDP), whose leader Oliver Ivanovic is imprisoned, accused the EULEX judiciary of employing double standards towards Serb and Albanian defendants.

GORAZDEVC- A commemoration was held in Gorazdevac, northwestern Kosovo, on Wednesday to commemorate two Serb youths, Ivan Jovovic and Pantelija Dakic, killed in a terrorist attack by ethnic Albanian extremists 11 years ago.

Officials of the Serbian government office for Kosovo Dusan Kozarev and Zeljko Jovic attended the commemoration.

Police are hunting for Gani Geci, an MP when Kosovo declared independence in 2008, who has admitted killing Ruzhdi Shaqiri, a veteran of the Kosovo Liberation Army, KLA, in his hometown of Skenderaj.

The ex-politician has refused to surrender to the local authorities and has said he wants the EU law mission, EULEX, to handle the case.

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA - EULEX Chief Prosecutor Jaroslava Novotina stated on Friday that EULEX has no secret arrest lists but she noted that investigations are being conducted against members of all ethnicities.
