Minor rise in Athens hotel rates this month
Online hotel rates in Athens are showing a marginal increase in the first month of the year, according to data analyzed by the Trivago travel website.
The average rate per night for a double room in the capital this month is 78 euros, while the average in 50 European cities that Trivago records comes to 103 euros.

Decline in home rental rates keeps slowing down
The decline in house rents in Greece has slowed down to an annual rate of 3.3 percent in the year to end-August, according to figures released by the Bank of Greece on Monday.

Small decline to hotel rates in Athens this month
Online rates for Athens hotels are showing a slight decline this month compared to September 2015, according to data processed by travel booking website Trivago.
The average online rate for a twin room in the Greek capital this month is down 2.7 percent on last year at 108 euros per night.

Mystery hotel guests probing VAT dodgers
The General Secretariat for Public Revenue is investigating 1,545 hotels as regards their occupancy rates and prices. Where required, the inspectors will pose as guests to establish whether what hotels declare in terms of occupancy figures and the rates they charge are factual and whether the correct taxes are being paid.

Greek Tourism Organisation to spend €2m on online marketing campaign
The Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) decided to promote the country’s tourism industry by earmarking €2m for promotional campaigns via Google, Facebook, TripAdvisor and Expedia. The General Secretary of the organisation, Dimitris Tryfonopoulos signed the relevant agreements with the online companies.

TripAdvisor launched “Travel Timeline” feature to share tourism experiences
Travel website TripAdvisor has launched a “Travel Timeline” feature so that users of the mobiel app can log and share their experiences. The feature creates a timeline of places travelers have visited and photos from each location that can be viewed in chronological order as a route on a map. It is private to each user, but travelers can edit their timeline and easily share their snapshots.
Santorini promoted as a year-round round destination
An online campaign has been started titled, “Santorini, year-round destination”, and will run for three weeks in an effort to draw more people to the island from countries such as the UK, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Austraia, Scandinavia, etc. The advertising campaign will focus on some of the most popular travel sites such as tripadvisor, lonelyplanet, expedia, airbnb and others.
