Before take off GCM meets with Greek Youth Camp
On Wednesday evening, the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) welcomed 18 enthusiastic participants from their inaugural Youth Camp to The Greek Center for a final briefing. The camp, which will run from 23 September to 01 October, is an initiative of the GCM and the Prefecture of Attiki. It has been designed to offer a comprehensive exploration of Greek culture, history, and heritage.

Following its successful launch, the book has now arrived in Melbourne and is available for sale to the general public via our online bookstore or from the Greek Community of Melbourne Office.
Greek History & Culture Seminars: Prof. Gonda Van Steen explores the “Silent Migration” of Greek children
Professor Gonda Van Steen from the King’s College London will illuminate a significant but often overlooked aspect of Greek history in her upcoming online lecture. Titled “Children of the ‘Silent Migration’: Child Adoptions from Greece to Countries Overseas in the 1950s-1960s,” the lecture will take place on Thursday 27 June at 7 pm and will be live streamed on Facebook and YouTube.

A visual history of Greek Australians
Through their visual project "Greek Australians: In Their Own Image," Australian documentary photographer Effy Alexakis and her historian collaborator Leonard Janiszewski have shone a light on a kind of Greek-Australian history that few are familiar with, with more than 2,000 recorded oral history interviews as well as various types of documentation.

Voula murder of Greek-Australian caught on tape
Images from a security camera show the murder of 46-year-old Greek-Australian Yiannis Makris outside his home in the southern Athens suburb of Voula last Wednesday. Makris was shot at least six times. The footage is expected to help police identify the shooter.

Greek-Australian care homes seek native speakers
For a second time, Fronditha Care, an organization which provides services to elderly Greek Australians, has invited Greeks to work as caregivers at its facilities in Australia, in an innovative program negotiated with the government to cover the needs of first-generation Greeks who never learned English.
