Europe’s leading jump this year by Miltos Tentoglou
Olympic gold medalist Miltos Tentoglou recorded the best effort in Europe this year measuring 8.38 meters at the long jump event of the Greek Championships on Sunday.
Tentoglou had all four jumps of his above 8.10 m. but his last effort in the final of the championships at Volos gave him the third best jump in the world so far this season, with a favorable wind at just 0.4 m/sec.
Church asked to become museum
The residents of Mursallı neighborhood in the Germencik district of the western province of Aydın want the two-century-old Taxiarkhea (Archangel) Church to be restored and transformed into a Museum of Exchange.

Egyptian national stands trial for rape in Thessaloniki
The trial has begun at a mixed jury court in Thessaloniki of 33-year-old man accused of raping and impregnating a 16-year-old refugee girl from Syria.
She gave birth in 2020 at Ippokratio hospital with forged documents provided by the suspect in order to conceal her age. Authorities began investigating the case in the Fall of 2020, three months after she gave birth.

The family of a 6-year-old boy who died of a heart attack on Friday are donating his organs, state-run broadcaster ERT reported.
One killed, 10 injured in suspected migrant smuggling van crash
A van suspected of smuggling migrants in Kozani, northern Greece, crashed during a police chase in the early hours of Friday, with preliminary reports saying that one passenger was killed and 10 injured.
Commission green-lights concession of E65 to Terna
The European Commission on Monday gave the Greek Infrastructure Ministry the nod for the construction of the northern part of European route E65 the runs from Trikala to Grevena.

First signs of Leandros appear

The Leandros cold front arrived on Friday, bringing heavy snowfall mainly to the northern regions of the country and a significant drop in temperatures nationwide. The frosty weather will continue Saturday, with the snow expected to continue unabated, even in Attica.

Gov't considering stricter local lockdowns
There are 11 areas in Greece close to "red alert" status due to the rising rate of coronavirus infections and the government is considering tighter local lockdowns, Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias said Wednesday.
Apart from the Western Attica regional unit, all others are in central and northern Greece.

Eighteen areas remain in state of alert
Authorities and health experts are closely monitoring the course of the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic as it unfolds around the country with increasing concern, both in terms of the suffocating pressure it is exerting on the National Health System and its dynamics in areas outside major urban centers, such as Pella, Pieria, Grevena, Drama and Serres in northern Greece.
