Propolis, a resinous substance obtained from honeybees, has become a new source of extra income for beekeepers in Turkey.

For a beekeeper in eastern Turkey, being honey to the striped insects is all in a day's work -- and also the quest to set a new world record.

Eurostat data on exports and imports of natural bee honey from the 28 EU member states that for the last year, Bulgaria has exported approximately 10,000 tonnes of honey (or 103,600 kg) to EU countries, and about 4 tonnes of honey (3,925 kg)for non-EU countries.

The honeydew honey from Bulgaria's Strandzha region has been included in the list of protected designations of origin of the European Union, announced the European Commission. This is the eighth Bulgarian product in the list, reports BNT. 

Turkey registered a honey bee species after a decade-long rehabilitation effort to boost pine honey production.
Chief breeding officer at the Aegean Agricultural Research Institute Üzeyir Karaca told Anadolu Agency on Feb. 28 the breeding began in 2008 to add superior attributes to honey making.

Burgas. The 4th edition of Flora Autumn flower bazaar opens today at Flora Exhibition Centre, said the press office of Burgas Municipality, reports Focus News Agency. 

Veliko Tarnovo. Bulgarian beekeepers across the country report significantly lower honey production compared with past seasons, Petya Ivanova, chair of the National Association of Women Beekeepers, told Focus Radio - Veliko Tarnovo. 

Bulgaria traditionally exports between 7 and 8 thousand tons of honey per year. This was said by Mihail Mihaylov, the chairman of the United Bulgarian Apiculture Union, according to Expert.bg

He explained that our country exports honey mainly to EU countries. According to him, Bulgarian honey is quoted in high quality but the quantities are limited.

A man in the southern Turkish province of Antalya ate 2.2 kilograms of honey in just three minutes during a competition as part of a honey festival organized on Aug. 21.

Out of 15 competitors in the Second Honey Festival in Antalya's Finike district, 49-year-old Ayhan Azak broke last year's record.

Last year's record for the honey-eating competition was 15 minutes.

The Hollywood Turkish Film Festival will be held on Sept. 20, 21 and 22 at the world famous Paramount Studios for the first time in Turkish cinema history. The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Tourism General Directorate of Cinema in a bid to reunite Turkish cinema with the global market.
