The UN Security Council (UNSC) is scheduled to meet on Monday following Israeli airstrikes against Iran, which were carried out in retaliation for an earlier attack by Tehran. The meeting, requested by Iran, has received backing from China, Algeria, and Russia, and is being chaired this month by Switzerland.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday proposed a two-day truce in Gaza and a limited hostage exchange aimed at securing "a complete ceasefire" after more than a year of war between Israel and Hamas.

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said Israel's attack on the Islamic Republic "should neither be exaggerated nor minimized."

"The evil perpetrated by the Zionist regime [Israel] two nights ago must not be exaggerated or minimized," he said in a post on X.

Without elaborating, he described the deadly attack as a "miscalculation."

The Iranian armed forces announced an increase in the death toll from two to four soldiers in the Israeli overnight airstrike, adding that Israeli fighter jets used U.S.-controlled airspace over Iraq to launch long-range missiles at Iranian military sites.

The Iraqi Prime Minister's office, cited by Reuters, issued a statement condemning Israel's "continued aggressive policy and expansion of regional conflict" following an airstrike on Iranian targets earlier today. Iraq called for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, urging comprehensive international efforts to support regional stability.

Iran reported that an Israeli attack targeted military sites in the Islamic Republic on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers. This strike occurred almost a month after Israel vowed retaliation for a missile barrage that sparked fears of a full-scale Middle East war.

The Israel announced that it conducted “precision targeted strikes”against Iran today in response to an Iranian attack on October 1, primarily targeting missile manufacturing facilities. Tehran, for its part, announced “limited damage.”

Israel launched airstrikes early Saturday targeting what it described as military targets in Iran in retaliation for a ballistic missile assault Oct. 1, officials said.

A senior U.S. State Department official said Israel has not assured the Biden administration it would refrain from attacking Iran's nuclear facilities, according to CNN.

The official said Friday that it is "really hard to tell" whether Tel Aviv would retaliate on the one-year mark of an attack by the Palestinian resistance group, Hamas, last Oct. 7 against Israel.
