Israeli diplomatic missions targeted by demonstrators

ANKARA -- The Turkish police used water cannons to disperse demonstrators who threw stones at the Israeli consulate in Istanbul.

They were protesting against Israel's ground offensive in the Gaza Strip.

With less than a month to go to the presidential polls, one has every right to evaluate the statements, policies and positions of any contender – on either internal or external issues – through the prism of the upcoming elections.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said July 10 ties with Israel would not return to normal unless the Netanyahu government ceased its deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip.

High-level Turkish and American diplomats will hold meetings in Washington Monday and Tuesday to exchange views about bilateral, regional and global issues, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on June 7.
