Professional climbers maintain Istanbul Airport’s inaccessible structures
At Istanbul Airport, a team of 20 professional climbers from diverse backgrounds is handling tasks in areas inaccessible by conventional means, such as elevating vehicles.
The team, including teachers, sociologists and archaeologists, has been specially trained and certified by internationally accredited organizations.
Airports serve nearly 130 mln passengers in January-July
The number of passengers going through Türkiye's airports increased by 9.9 percent in the first seven months of 2024 to reach 129.6 million.
The international passenger tally rose by 11 percent annually in January-July to more than 70 million, according to data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ).
Istanbul Airport remains Europe's busiest air hub
Istanbul Airport remained the busiest air hub in Europe from July 15 to 21, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu has said.
The airport saw an average of 1,485 flights daily last week, Uraloğlu said, citing data from the European Organization for Air Navigation Safety (Eurocontrol).

Air passenger traffic grows 12 percent in six months
Turkish airports served a total of 104.7 million passengers in the first half of 2024, marking an 11.8 percent increase from a year ago, data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) have shown.
The international passenger tally rose 13 percent year-on-year to 58.6 million, while domestic passengers increased 10.2 percent annually to 46.2 million.
Turkish airports serve 82 million passengers in 5 months
Total passenger traffic at Turkish airports increased by 13 percent in the January-May period from a year ago reach more than 82 million, data from the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ) have shown.
The international passenger tally rose by 14.4 percent to 44.9 million, while domestic passengers were up 11 percent annually to 37.1 million.

Passenger traffic at Türkiye's airports increased by 23.8 percent in the first four months of 2024 from a year ago to reach 61.8 million, according to the data from the State Airports Authority (DHMİ).
Istanbul Airport named ‘Airport of the Year’
Istanbul Airport has been named "Airport of the Year" for the fourth time at the Air Transport Awards 2024.
In its five years of operation, the airport received the prize four times, demonstrating a remarkable achievement, the Air Transport News said.
The winners are determined by a vote involving more than 4,000 Air Transport News readers and aviation industry executives.
