President Erdoğan hosts security summit in Ankara with top officials

A security summit will be convened under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Dec. 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the Presidential Palace in Ankara with the participation of senior civil and military officials. 

Terror attacks and the latest developments in Iraq and Syria will be discussed during the summit.

Funeral held for five police officers killed in twin bombings in Istanbul

A funeral was held at Istanbul police headquarters on Vatan Avenue in Fatih for five police officers who were killed in twin bombings in Istanbul late on Dec. 10.

Third-degree police chief Vefa Karakurdu, police chief Kadir Yıldırım and police officers Adem Oğuz, İlker Uylaş and Hasan Bilgin were laid to rest.

Turkey declares day of mourning after twin bombings in Istanbul

Turkey has declared a day of national mourning after twin attacks in Istanbul killed at least 38 people, including 30 police officers, late on Dec. 10, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The Ankara Governor's Office released an official written statement, notifying that a day of national mourning had been declared to commemorate the victims of the attack.

Turkey toughens passport control on German diplomats in retaliation for Cologne incident

German citizens with diplomatic passports have started to be investigated and searched in detail at passport control offices at Istanbul's Atatürk Airport after the deputy speaker of Turkish Parliament was temporarily held in an airport in Germany, Anadolu Agency report-ed on Dec 8.

Turkish economy minister goes to meeting in taxi due to traffic jam

Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci was forced to arrive at a meeting with a taxi due to Istanbul's infamous traffic on Nov. 9. 

The minister's car could not exit a parking lot in Istanbul's Yeşilköy district, forcing Zeybekci to find a cab in order to arrive on time for a meeting with Qatari counterpart Sheikh Ahmet Bin Jassim al-Thani.

Shots fired at Istanbul airport, two detained

Police fired shots in the air at Istanbul's Atatürk Airport on Nov. 6 after two suspects on a motorcycle refused to stop at a checkpoint, the Istanbul governor has said.

Governor Vasip Şahin tweeted early on Nov. 6 morning that the two suspects at the airport were detained and were not carrying any weapons or explosives.

He said the airport remained open to passengers.
