Moldova Sentences Six for Plotting Plahotniuc`s Assassination

Six men accused of plotting the assassination of Moldova's most influential oligarch, Democratic Party leader Vlad Plahotniuc, were sentenced late Monday night to between three and 20 years in jail.  

Moldovan prosecutors originally had requested prison terms of between 11 to 24 years for the six alleged contract killers.  

Moldova Jails Ex-deputy for Spying for Russia

Moldova courts on Tuesday jailed a former deputy, Iurie Bolboceanu, for 14 years, for "betraying his homeland" by spying for Russia.

The Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Special Investigations, PCCOCS, said the Russian Military Intelligence Agency, the GRU, recruited him from October 5, 2016, to March 17, 2017.

Moldova Suspends President to Appoint Defence Minister

Moldova's government appointed a new defence minister on Tuesday after a lengthy row over the post between the pro-European, Democratic Party-led cabinet and pro-Russian President Igor Dodon.

Eugen Sturza, 32, was sworn in at a ceremony at the presidential palace led by parliament speaker Andrian Candu, acting as interim president while Dodon was briefly suspended.
