The EU's top diplomat on Wednesday stressed Türkiye's increasing geopolitical importance, saying the country is crucial to the bloc's strategic interests amid global challenges.

Speaking at a press conference, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell noted that "Türkiye is a candidate country whose geopolitical relevance has grown significantly in the current circumstances."

Gulf leaders, including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, met with EU counterparts in Brussels on Wednesday for talks they hoped could help defuse an "extremely dangerous escalation" in the Middle East.

Josep Borrell, the EU's chief diplomat, stated that if Western allies cease their support for Ukraine, the war would end in just 15 days, leading to a victory for Russian President Vladimir Putin. This comment was reported by the business newspaper 20minutos.
