Kelkit

Following the 26th International Archaeological Congress in Batumi, where works from the Roman period were examined, a group of 69 archaeologists from England, Germany, Hungary, France, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Austria, Finland, Poland, and the U.S. recently toured and examined the ancient city of Satala as part of their program.

Archaeological excavations continue in the ancient city of Satala, the only surviving castle on the eastern border of the Roman Empire and the only Roman Legion castle in Anatolia that can be excavated.

Efforts to restore a 12,000-year-old lake in Turkey's northeastern Gümüşhane province, which was wiped off the map by an excavation triggered by an urban myth last year, have failed.
The lake, whose water was drained after the Gümüşhane Governor's Office allowed a treasure hunt, failed to hold the desired level of water.

Archeological excavations have begun at the site of a Roman legionary base in the ancient city of Satala in the northern province of Gümüşhane's Kelkit district.

Two workers have died and four others have been taken to hospital due to carbon monoxide poisoning in a mine in the Black Sea province of Gümüşhane, state-run Anadolu Agency reported early on July 16.  

Gümüşhane Governor Okay Memiş told reporters that the four workers were provided with outpatient treatment at a state hospital in the district of Kelkit. 

The Roman Empire's military headquarters, the ancient city of Satala in Kelkit, will be unearthed.

Despite all search efforts and almost 200 interrogations, there was still no clue on Jan. 19 about the whereabouts two children who went missing 22 days ago in the Re?adiye district of northern Tokat province.

More than 200 police officers, soldiers and locals backed by helicopters continued a search on Jan. 5 for two children in the northern province of Tokat who went missing more than a week ago.
