Athens sees heavy traffic in run-up to Christmas

Heavy traffic has been reported in the center of Athens and on other major thoroughfares in the Attica region in the run-up to Christmas.

The streets around Syntagma, Omonia, the Kallimarmaro Stadium, as well as on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue up to the intersection with Alexandras Avenue, were among the most affected.

ISAP trains evacuated after fire

Two Athens metro trains were evacuated after a fire broke out near Neratziotissa station in northern Attica on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire brigade was alerted at around 5 p.m. due to heavy smoke from the fire. The two trains on Line 1 (ISAP), heading toward the northern suburb of Kifissia, were stopped and evacuated, with passengers walking along the tracks to Irini station.
