Cold front brings snowfall to Greek capital

Many Athenians woke up to a blanket of snow on Monday morning, as the cold front "Medea" that swept into Greece on Saturday affected most parts of the country and particularly higher altitudes.

In the capital, snowfall came early in the morning and blanketed northern suburbs like Kifissia, Ekali and Melissia, while also giving a dusting to the downtown area.

Office space rental rates soar in 2020

After residential properties, it is the turn of modern office spaces in Athens to record major hikes in their rental rates.

According to the latest report by Geoaxis Property & Valuation Services, at the start of the year the average increase amounted to 8 percent from a year earlier, and in several cases the hikes were even higher.

Murder suspect extradited to Greece

A 30-year-old man wanted in connection with the murder of a Greek businessman in Athens in April last year was extradited to Greece from Belgium.
Greek authorities had issued a European arrest warrant for the suspect, charging him of murder, robberies, thefts, being a member of a criminal gang and other crimes. He was arrested in Belgium  in February.

Traffic disruptions on central Kifissias Avenue

Traffic will be diverted on parts of Kifissias Avenue, one of the capital's main thoroughfares, from 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. until June 13 due to works, which began on Monday, for the installation of a fiber optics network.

Traffic will flow normally on May 31 and June 2.

There will also be traffic disruption in the wider area of Kifissia in northern Athens for the same reason. 

Two ATMs blow up in Attica overnight

Unknown assailants blew up two cash machines in the Athens suburb of Kifissia and in Kalyvia in eastern Attica but failed in both instances to retrieve any money.
According to reports, the explosion in Kifissia occurred at 3.50 a.m., while the one in Kalyvia occurred about half an hour later.

Police are investigating.

The 65th annual Kifissia Flower Show is under way in the leafy northern Athenian suburb, inviting residents of the Greek capital to spruce up their balconies and gardens, exchange ideas with growers and aficionados, and ask for advice and tips. The municipal event, which dates back to 1937, takes place in the park stretching between the Kifissia ISAP train station and the bus terminus.
