Zoumboulakis Galleries is hosting exhibitions of new works by Christophoros Katsadiotis and Jenny Kodonidou at its Kolonaki premises in central Athens. The displays, "Poetic Incidents" (Katsadiotis) and "Notes on Ambiguity" (Kodonidou), open on Thursday, January 12, and run through February 4. Opening hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Martha Jungwirth | Athens | To January 21
Kalfayan Galleries in Athens is hosting a solo exhibition featuring watercolors by Austrian artist Martha Jungwirth in association with Vienna's Galerie Krinzinger. The show, titled "Paros," showcases paintings created on and inspired by the Cycladic island. Opening hours are Mondays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesdays to Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Christmas Concert | Athens | December 22
The Philippos Nakas Conservatory's string orchestra and choirs will perform spirituals, Christmas carols and popular classical music works at the Hellenic-American Union in Athens on Thursday, December 22. The concert is set to start at 6.30 p.m. and admission is free of charge.

Security slipping
There appears to be an almost lackadaisical approach to security in Greece and, needless to say, this has cost the country. Just yesterday, we witnessed an attack on the embassy of one of the country's closest friends and allies in what should be the safest part of the Greek capital.

The Evripides Art Gallery in central Athens is hosting "About Felicity," a solo exhibition of works by painter-sculptor Erietta Vordoni. The show, which runs to December 3, explores the Epicurian notion of pursuing pleasures at a time of a general shortage of emotions and values. Opening hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Vangelis Tzermias | Athens | October 8 - November 3
Depot Art Gallery in Athens is hosting "Eidomen," a solo exhibition of works by artist Vangelis Tzermias. The show explores the ongoing migrant crisis and its title is inspired by a makeshift camp at Greece's border village of Idomeni, where thousands of refugees and migrants were stranded earlier this year. The show opens on Saturday, October 8, and runs through November 3.
Acropolis run to shut roads in central Athens
Traffic police are to divert motorists from several central roads in Athens on Saturday afternoon as thousands of runners join the Acropolis Night Run, a 5-kilometer mini-marathon, which starts outside the Acropolis Museum at 6.30 p.m.
The run will cover much of the capital's historic district and end where it started.

Giorgos Lappas | Athens | To November 20
In association with the Benaki Museum, the DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art pays tribute to prominent sculptor Giorgos Lappas, who died in January this year. "Giorgos Lappas Happy Birthday" runs at the Benaki's Kolonaki headquarters in central Athens, through November 20. The exhibition showcases a selection of the artist's more recent and lesser known works.

Curtis on Tour | Athens | September 28 - October 1
In association with the Schwarz Foundation, the Gennadius Library at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens is hosting a series of classical music concerts featuring featuring Curtis on Tour, the Nina von Maltzahn Global Touring Initiative of the Curtis Institute of Music. Performances take place at the library's Cotsen Hall on September 28, 29 and 30 and October 1.

Chinese Ceramics Extension | Athens | To September 11
For the first time in 35 years, the Benaki Museum in Athens presents highlights from its permanent collection of Chinese ceramics, in an exhibition that has been such a success, it has been extended to September 11. On display at the museum's flagship building in Kolonaki are 90 masterpieces of ceramic art from the George Eumorfopoulos collection, which was donated to the museum in the 1930s.
