A lawyer who represented former MEP Yiannis Lagos of the now disbanded Golden Dawn party has been permanently disbarred from the Athens Bar Association after a decision on Wednesday by the Secondary Disciplinary Council, chaired by Supreme Court President Ioanna Klapa-Christodoulea.

Health Minister Thanos Plevris on Friday once again refuted the allegations made by the lawyer of Roula Pispirigou during her trial that the head of pediatric intensive care at Patra University Hospital, Andreas Iliadis, was involved in selling organs abroad, describing them as both provocative and false.

The Athens Bar Association's (ABA) disciplinary board removed Konstantinos Plevris, a lawyer representing a former member of the neo-Nazi criminal organization Golden Dawn, after he gave a Nazi salute in front of judges at an appeal hearing attended by dozens of people.

Greece's new health minister, Thanos Plevris, on Wednesday afternoon issued an apology for past statements he made as the defense counsel for his father, whom critics in the country and abroad consider a Holocaust denier, and following a same-day critical announcement by the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece (KIS).

New Democracy politician Thanasis Plevris will take the place of outgoing Dimitris Avramopoulos in Parliament.

Avramopoulos gave up his seat on Monday as he left to take up the role of Home Affairs and Migration commissioner in Brussels.
