The official ceremony of the modern illumination of the ancient Temple of Poseidon on Cape Sounio took place on Monday evening to the imposing melodies of Greek composer Stavros Xarchakos.

The ceremony was inaugurated by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the presence of Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and guests from Greece and abroad.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Tuesday welcomed the appointment of Apostolos Tzitzikostas as the European Union's commissioner for sustainable transport and tourism, following Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's announcement of the executive's new makeup. 

According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, the package of measures announced last Saturday in Thessaloniki by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and detailed during the week by the relevant ministries, aim to increase the disposable income of citizens.

These measures are focused on two main axes: increasing incomes and reducing taxes.

Following the devastating Storm Daniel that hit Thessaly and surrounding areas a year ago, the government activated state aid through the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection for households, businesses and farms.

This government often shifts responsibility to third parties: The high cost of living is blamed on "imported inflation," soaring electricity prices on the war in Ukraine, and destructive wildfires on "uncleared plots," among other things. While there may be some truth to these claims, they do not address the problem comprehensively.

Kyriakos' grandfather was a fisherman and lutist, like himself. His father is a fisherman and violinist, like Kyriakos' son. For four generations fishing and music have been central to their lives, this has not changed. What has changed dramatically, however, is their home - an island in the Cyclades, and one of the most popular with tourists.

Greece said on Friday it would give a three-year tax break to homeowners who convert their short-term rentals to long ones, becoming the latest European country to clamp down on holiday lets to tackle a housing shortage.

Today, at a meeting held at the Maximou, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis discussed the search for a fair and sustainable solution for the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF) with the owners of “Olympiacos BC,” Panagiotis and Georgios Angelopoulos.

The discussion focused on the possibility of granting SEF to the Olympiacos basketball team so that they can have their own “home.”

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has made an appeal to the European Commission to address the distortions and fragmentation in the European energy market, which have led to significant differences in wholesale electricity prices between Southeast European countries and the rest of the EU during the summer.
