Saudi downplays leaks as chequebook diplomacy revealed

Thousands of diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks reveal how Saudi Arabia apparently uses its deep pockets to buy international support, but the kingdom insists it is doing nothing out of the ordinary.
 
The whistleblowing website has released about 70,000 documents it said were obtained from the Saudi foreign ministry, of more than half a million it says it received.

Lebanese man arrested on Cyprus after 2 tons of bomb-making material seized

A Lebanese man travelling under a Canadian passport was arrested on Thursday in the Cypriot coastal town of Larnaca after authorities recovered two tons of potential bomb-making material in his apartment.
The suspect, 26, had reportedly been under police surveillance.
According to reports, more than 400 boxes of ammonium nitrate were seized along with 10,000 euros.

US Blacklists Two 2012 Bulgaria Bombing Suspects

The United States has put on its terrorism blacklist two men identified as key suspects in the bombing of a bus at Bulgaria's Burgas in 2012 attributed to Hizbollah organisation.

The State Department said in a statement it has designated Meliad Farah and Hassan el-Hajj Hassan, both believed to be located in Lebanon, as "specially designated global terrorists".

Iran confirms general killed in Israel strike on Syria

Iran confirmed Jan.19 that a general of its elite Revolutionary Guards died in an Israeli strike on Syria that also killed six members of Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
      
"General Mohammad Ali Allahdadi and a number of fighters and Islamic Resistance (Hezbollah) forces were attacked by the Zionist regime's helicopters," said a statement on the Guards' website.

Israel Strikes Golan Heights, Kills Hezbollah Members

Israel carried out an air strike in the Syrian sector of the Golan Heights on Sunday, killing six members of Hezbollah.

Among the victims is the son of Hezbollah's late military leader, a current commander and at least one Iranian, the BBC reports.

The members of the Lebanese movement were killed while completing a reconnaissance mission in the Syrian province of Quneitra.
