Seven PPC executives acquitted on appeal over 2017 lignite mine collapse
An appeals court in Western Macedonia on Thursday reversed a sentence imposed on seven former and current executives of state-run power utility PPC over a huge landslide at a lignite mine in the region of Kozani in 2017, which forced the evacuation of a nearby village.

IEA commendations and recommendations for Greece
Greece is to be commended for its response to the global energy crisis triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a report released on Thursday.
IEA also commended Greece for its National Climate Law, which sets ambitious decade-by-decade targets for bringing down greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.

Divestment from lignite postponed for three years
Τhe Greek government plans to cover most of the energy deficit that will arise in the event of interruption of Russian gas flows with the use of lignite and energy savings. Thus, on the lignite front, early lignite divestment has been put on hold and the withdrawal of the lignite units from operation is expected to be delayed for three years.

Eurostat – 49% reduction in lignite use in Greece in 2020
The use of lignite in Greece showed a big drop in 2020, since compared to 2019 it decreased by 49%.
This is shown by the latest data from the European statistical office Eurostat on lignite use in the EU, with the numbers being impressive.

Turkey's industrial productivity rises in Q3
Turkey's industrial productivity increased by 2.84% year-on-year from July to September, the Industry and Technology Ministry said on Dec. 11.
Calendar adjusted index of production per person employed stood at 114.09 in the third quarter of 2020, rising from 110.23 in the same period last year, according to official figures.

RWE to sign cooperation deal with PPC

Government presses forward with phasing out lignite plants
