Fire zones in country's southeast declared disaster areas
The areas affected by the agricultural fires in the southeastern provinces of Diyarbakır and Mardin are now officially classified as "disaster areas" and a total of 5 million Turkish Liras ($152,500) in emergency aid has been allocated to families affected by the fires, the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) has announced.
Anti-terror op launched against PKK in southeast Turkey
Turkey launched an operation early on Feb. 22 against the PKK terrorist organization in southeastern Mardin province.
The city governorate announced that the anti-terror operation will take place in a total of 18 neighborhoods in the towns of Mazıdağı, Derik and Kızıltepe.
Two soldiers killed in mine explosion in Turkey's southeast
Two soldiers were killed after outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants detonated a bomb on a road between the southeastern provinces of Mardin and Diyarbakır on March 15.
The explosives were detonated on a highway near Mardin's Mazıdağı district.
