Today marks 69 years since the day when the Hellenism of Constantinople became the scapegoat for the beginning of the EOKA struggle for the unification of Cyprus with Greece. Two seemingly unconnected events, in two different geographical areas, but with the same “object”. Turkey’s intention to impose itself in the eastern Mediterranean by pushing aside the “obstacle” of the Greeks.

Türkiye has dismissed recent claims by far-right groups in Greece regarding the historical region of Pontus as "baseless," arguing that the assertions are aimed at harming bilateral relations.

The year 1896, following the first modern Olympic Games, was defined by a widespread sense of optimism in Athens, a rather insignificant city of just 130,000. It was a time when "little Greece" began cultivating aspirations of victory, reaching out to realize the Great Idea by reclaiming the territories of the Byzantine Empire - including Constantinople, the center of Hellenism.
