As part of its "Unseen Museum" program for showcasing some of the wonderful pieces kept in its massive storage spaces, the National Archaeological Museum of Athens is presenting the "stele of the twin babies" for the first time.
Off-duty police officer assaulted outside school
A police officer was assaulted by unknown assailants on Monday afternoon in Menidi, western Attica while off-duty.
According to the police, the 49-year-old officer was waiting outside the school for his child when a car stopped, and five individuals exited to attack him, striking him in the head and face.

A man dies in a car fire
A dead man was found in a burning car in Menidi, eastern Attica on Saturday night.
The fire department reported that the man's body was found inside the vehicle while the fire was being extinguished.
On the mission were ten firefighters and three vehicles.
A preliminary investigation is underway by the police.

Mystery shrouds train network sabotage
The latest sabotage incident on the network of the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE), which occurred Monday night, remains shrouded in ambiguity.
This was not the usual theft of copper from electrification cables because the primary goal of the perpetrator/s was to disrupt the network's power and telecommand systems, which had been delivered for use three weeks before.

Flames approach Kapota military camp in Menidi
Authorities are on high alert at the Kapota military camp in Menidi, situated to the west of Athens, as flames edge closer to the perimeter from the camp's northern side.
Firefighting units are currently present at the scene, and helicopter operations are in progress. The potential for evacuation is being considered.

Wildfire rages near Athens for second day, forcing more evacuations
Hundreds of firefighters struggled overnight to contain a wildfire on the outskirts of Athens, forcing more evacuations as authorities warned the risk of new blazes was high across the country on Wednesday.
Twenty people have been killed since fires erupted in northern Greece on Saturday and quickly spread, fanned by gale force winds in the second major outbreak of the summer.
Dozens detained after police attacked in Menidi
Police said on Thursday they detained 35 people over a Molotov cocktail attack on a Dias motorcycle unit in Menidi, northeast Attica late on Wednesday night.
According to reports the incident occurred after a group of people gathered outside a local primary school in Liosia.
As soon as they saw the police, they launched a hail of stones and Molotov cocktails on the unit.

Experts concerned over increase in new infections
Greek health experts are concerned about the increase in the number in new Covid-19 infections in the past 48 hours, particularly in Attica, saying that this development may halt any plans to further open the economy.
In Attica alone on Wednesday, 409 new cases were detected, of which 76 were in the northern suburbs, 104 in the center of Athens and 49 in Eastern Attica.

A prosecutor has ordered an investigation into an officer of the Dias police motorcycle unit after footage emerged showing him assaulting an 11-year-old Roma boy on Sunday in Menidi, western Attica, in what is being treated as a racially motivated attack.
