The killing of an 11-year-old boy by a stray bullet last week and the tensions stoked by the incident in one of Attica's most downgraded districts, have prompted local authorities in Menidi to increase demands for more policing and specifically for a new police station near the school where they boy died.

11-year-old boy dies after being struck by stray bullet

An 11-year-old boy has died after being struck by a stray bullet in Menidi, eastern Attica, authorities said Friday.

The incident took place during an outdoor school celebration with other children on Thursday. The boy was rushed to hospital after he collapsed in the schoolyard. Emergency staff were told he had fainted.
