Visitors go behind the scenes at the NAM
An art conservator talks about her work during a visitor tour of the behind-the-scenes areas of the National Archaeological Museum in Athens Thursday. This was the first tour in a new initiative to acquaint the public with all facets of the valuable work being done by the biggest archaeological museum in the country and one of the most respected in the world.

Hermitage Museum treasures on view in Athens
El Greco's painting of the Apostles Peter and Paul is displayed at the Christian and Byzantine Museum in Athens as part of "The State Hermitage Museum: Gateway to History" exhibition, which opens to the public Tuesday. Running to February next year, the temporary display showcases 80 pieces from the Russian museum's permanent collections, including antiquities, paintings and sculptures.

Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art won the second prize in an international conference on Cultural Tourism held in Portugal. The 9th international conference for Cultural Tourism in Europe took place in Guimaraes, on the theme ‘Intangible Heritage: Incomparable Asset for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism Development’.

'Superpower' Turkey seeks to protect cultural heritage
Turkey, a "superpower in terms of cultural heritage," has a wealth of artifacts to display but also has its work cut out in terms of maintaining its heritage, according to the general director of Cultural Heritage and Museums.
Museums and galleries criticise "unbearable" conditions
Public institutions dedicated to preserving Slovenia's cultural heritage have been underfunded for years, the association said, pointing out poor maintenance of museum buildings and budget cuts. Another big problem is work overload and shortage of funds.

Bulgarian Culture Minister Calls for Restoring Demolished Tobacco Warehouse in Plovdiv
Bulgarian Culture Minister Vezhdi Rashidov called on Tuesday for restoring the demolished tobacco warehouse in the city of Plovdiv to its original look.
The demolition began on Sunday, but was halted on Monday after large-scale protests by architects, public figures and citizens, including the formation of a human chain in front of the building.
