A gendarmerie sergeant who missed his own wedding ceremony due to a lack of security on the road by his unit's southeastern border station has been granted special permission to attend the wedding party.

Visitors, revenue up at both museums, archaeological sites
Greek museums posted a 12.4-percent increase in the number of visitors in the January-May period this year compared with 2014, while much-needed revenues for state coffers generated by the museums were up 19 percent.
Greek minister promotes collaboration in international culture dialogue
Alternate Culture Minister Nikos Xydakis represented Greece in the international conference “Culture: an instrument of dialogue among peoples”, organized by Italy in the premises of the International Exhibition of the Milan Expo 2015. The conference had the participation of eight three countries and Xydakis had the opportunity to promote cultural partnerships.

Designs for cutting-edge museum for underwater artifacts unveiled
A presentation of designs for a new state-of-the-art museum for underwater antiquities at the port of Piraeus took place this week at the site where the new museum will be transformed from a current industrial site.
The presentation took place aboard a Liberty-class freighter now also serving as a floating museum.

Greece: “Stop to illegal cultural trafficking!”
Alternate Minister for Culture Nikos Xydakis expressed Greece’s full support for the directives issued by UNESCO on the national policies to combat illicit trafficking of cultural goods. Speaking at the Third Meeting of States Parties to the 1970 Convention in Paris, he presented the Greek proposal on the illegal cultural trade called “Stop Illicit Trafficking”.
