Around $34 bln receivables, tax debts restructured: Turkish finance minister

The government restructured a total of 120 billion Turkish Liras ($33.6 billion) public receivables and tax debts in a recent plan, Finance Minister Naci Ağbal said on May 24. 

Ağbal added that tax offices would be open over the weekend to receive last-minute applications, for which a May 31 deadline has been set.

The Turkish government ran a budget deficit of 17.9 billion Turkish Liras (around $5 billion) in January-April and 3 billion liras (around $843.5 million) in April, mainly due to a rise in state incentives to back the economy.

A draft law that will pass a new wave of tax and premium debt restructuring was submitted to the Turkish Parliament on April 19. 

"The Draft Law on Restructuring Some Receivables" will stipulate the debt restructuring until the date of May 31, Reuters reported. 

The draft is composed of six articles in total. 

Economy to be top agenda after referendum in Turkey: Minister

Economic issues will be a top priority after Turkey's referendum on April 16, Finance Minister Naci Ağbal has said, adding that new measures to give a further boost to the Turkish economy would be discussed. 

Speaking to Anadolu Agency's Editors' Desk in Ankara on April 13, Ağbal said the government's previously launched measures had already given yields.
