President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on May 22 criticized Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Ashot Hovakimiyan over his remarks largely focusing on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Summit in Istanbul.

The Armenian military has violated the ceasefire along the contact line in Azerbaijan's breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh 118 times over the past 24 hours, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said Sunday.

Azerbaijani forces have violated the ceasefire in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh 40 times on Saturday and in the early hours of Sunday, the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic's (NKR) Defense Ministry said.

The Azerbaijani side earlier accused NKR forces of 118 violations.

Muslim nations cannot permit terror organizations to incriminate Muslims, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said March 1 in an address to the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Islamabad.

Turkey's Foreign Ministry has condemned Armenia for committing "heavy weapon attacks" against Azerbaijan early on Feb. 25 in an attack that killed five Azerbaijani soldiers, according to the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry.

The ministry issued a late on Feb. 26, offering condolences to the fallen Azerbaijani soldiers' families and the people of Azerbaijan.      

The 1992 Khojaly massacre in Nagorno-Karabakh was a "crime against humanity," Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated on Feb. 22. 

"We have never forgotten Khojaly and we will [never] forget it," Çavuşoğlu told the Khojaly Genocide, Crimes Against Humanity and Terrorism conference in the capital Ankara. 

Armenia said May 5 that it may consider formally recognizing the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region, in a move that would increase tensions with Azerbaijan just a month after clashes over the disputed territory claimed 110 lives.

Two ethnic Armenian soldiers have been killed in a new upsurge in fighting between Azerbaijani forces and separatists from the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh, the separatists said on April 26.
