Former Pakistani leader Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to seven years in prison for corruption Monday, state media reported, the latest conviction in a series of allegations which saw him ousted from power last year.

Disgraced former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was in custody on Saturday, a day after the deadliest attacks in Pakistan's troubled election campaign killed more than 130 people, including a candidate.

Pakistan authorities locked down parts of Lahore Friday for the return from London of former premier Nawaz Sharif, who faces possible arrest and a 10-year prison sentence ahead of already tense elections his party insists are being rigged.

Pakistan's Supreme Court ruled to remove Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from office following a nearly year-long corruption investigation into his family, local media reported Friday.

"Supreme Court of Pakistan has disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama Papers case verdict. Justice Ejaz Afzal announced the decision," The Times of Islamabad wrote.

The deadly attack in Lahore is yet another indicator that the entire world must unite in a determined fight against terrorism.

Turkey's president and prime minister have condemned the Lahore blast claimed by the Pakistani Taliban that killed at least 72, while extending their condolences to the Pakistani government and stressing their support in the country's fight against terror.
