Author and former FRY president Dobrica Ćosić dies

BELGRADE -- Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić sent a telegram of condolences to the family of late Dobrica Ćosić, Serbian writer and politician.

The 93-year-old member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) passed away on Sunday, his family announced.

Nikolic: EU is Serbia's strategic objective

BELGRADE - Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic said during a meeting he had with Polish Senate Marshal Bogdan Borusewicz on Friday that EU membership is Serbia’s strategic objective.

“We are ready to close chapters in accession negotiations (with the EU) efficiently and quickly so as to make our country a modern and well-organized state,” Nikolic said.

Nikolic awarded Gold Star by World Federation of Consuls

BELGRADE - The World Federation of Consuls presented Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic with the Gold Star award, the highest honor of the organization, on Thursday.

In a friendly conversation with Nikolic, officials of the World Federation of Consuls said that in the last two years he has made much effort to ensure Serbia's economic stability and greater reputation in the world.

Ashton to address Serbian parliament on Monday

BELGRADE - EU High Representative and Vice President of the European Commission Catherine Ashton will address the Serbian parliament at a special meeting on Monday.

The meeting will start at 3:15 p.m. CET, according to the parliament.
Ashton will arrive in Serbia on Monday to meet with future prime minister Aleksandar Vucic and President Tomislav Nikolic.

BELGRADE -- President Tomislav Nikolić received on April 23, Serbian Army Day, with members of the Defense Ministry and the armed forces.

He stated that rectitude, conscientiousness and ethics characterized the Serbian troops, and that he was proud of them.
