Operation Euphrates Shield

Turkish police launched legal action on Oct. 9 against 78 people for inciting hatred through a smear campaign on social media against Turkey's Operation Peace Spring east of the Euphrates River in northern Syria, said Turkish security forces. 

Turkish troops are continuing their advance into northern Syria following a ground offensive launched as part of Operation Peace Spring, the Defense Ministry said early on Oct. 10.

Turkey's Defense Minister Hulusi Akar on Oct. 9 said the preparations for planned military operations at east of the Euphrates River are ongoing.

Turkish parliament ratifies document extending military mandate for operations in Syria and Iraq until October 30, 2020, Daily Sabah reports.

The decision comes after the National Defense Ministry announced earlier in the same that Turkey had completed all preparations for a military operation in the area east of the Euphrates River in Syria to establish a safe zone.

Turkey's preparations and deployments for its planned military offensive in northeastern Syria are continuing, broadcaster NTV cited Defence Minister Hulusi Akar as saying on Wednesday.

Turkey's National Defense Ministry on oct. 8 stated that Turkey was the only NATO country to fight against the ISIL terrorist organization. 

Turkey air strikes against headquarters of Kurdish units in northeastern Syrian, Ria Novosti reported.

Syrian news agency Sana reported that Turkey struck targets belonging to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Haaretz reported.

The U.S. military has effectively shut Turkey off on Oct. 7 from the air space in northeastern Syria, taking a series of actions that
reduce the possibility that Turkish jets could support a planned military operation there.

US will not support Turkish operation in northern Syria, the White House said. US troops will not participate in Turkey's military operation in northern Syria, according to a White House press release after a telephone conversation between US President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Erdogan.

U.S. and Turkish troops conducted their third joint ground patrol on Oct. 4 within a planned safe zone in northern Syria, along the Syrian-Turkish border, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said.
