Bulgarian Parliament Goes on Recess before Election
The last regular sitting of the 44th National Assembly will be next Friday (March 5), after which the parliament will be in recess for the campaign. The decision has been discussed with the parties and will be voted on in plenary tomorrow.
Analysts divided on whether govt will finish its term
Ljubljana – After yesterday’s failed vote of no confidence in the government, political analysts seem to be divided as to what this means for the coalition. While Rok Čakš believes it has made the coalition more stable and that this marks the end of attempts to bring down the government, Aljaž Pengov Bitenc expect more ouster motions.
Statutory committee to report on three bills repealing special state pensions
Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Ludovic Orban said on Tuesday that the bills repealing special state pensions of lawmakers initiated by the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Save Romania Union - Freedom, Unity and Solidarity Party (USR PLUS) and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) will be sent to the statutory committee for a report, and within one week they will be up for a plenary vote.
Committee okays electoral bill implementing Constitutional Court ruling
Ljubljana – The parliamentary Home Affairs Committee endorsed on Thursday a bill redrawing electoral districts in line with a 2018 Constitutional Court decision. MPs of the coalition Democrats (SDS), New Slovenia (NSi), Modern Centre Party (SMC) and opposition Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) have backed the proposal.
Finance Committee amends bill on Demographic Fund
Ljubljana – The parliamentary Finance Committee adopted a series of amendments to the National Demographic Fund bill on Wednesday, mostly based on remarks from the parliamentary legal service. The opposition walked out after its amendments, which would change the basic concept of the fund, were voted down.

Government approves draft repeal of law prohibiting sale of state-owned shares in companies
The government has adopted a bill repealing the provisions of Law 173/2020, which prohibits, for a period of two years, the sale of state-owned shares in companies, Prime Minister Florin Citu said.
Motion of no confidence in government temporarily withdrawn
Ljubljana – Pensioners’ Party (DeSUS) leader Karl Erjavec has withdrawn his bid to become PM-designate until all MPs are able to vote in person, after an opposition MP was confirmed to have the coronavirus and several others still waited for the results of their tests.
President of Senate: I never supported unicameralism, but we need to reduce number of MPs
The President of the Senate, Anca Dragu, on Wednesday said that the number of MPs must be reduced, based on analysis, and specified that she never supported unicameralism. "We had a referendum in November 2009 in which Romanian citizens expressed their wish that the number of MPs had to be significantly reduced to 300 and that the Parliament be unicameral, instead of bicameral.
Demographic fund in focus as parliament in session
Ljubljana – The National Assembly is meeting for a four-day session on Monday with one of the items on the agenda the controversial bill on the demographic fund.
The session, held in a hybrid form to allow deputies wishing so to participate remotely, will open with the customary questions time featuring PM Janez Janša and members of his government.

Ethics Committee votes to lift Polakis’ immunity
Parliament's Ethics Committee has ruled in favor of lifting the immunity from prosecution of SYRIZA MP and former alternate health minister Pavlos Polakis, with a vote in a House plenary session expected on the issue, most likely next week.
