Emergency traffic measures on Patra-Athens motorway due to weather conditions

Emergency traffic measures were implemented on the Patra-Athens highway on Saturday near Eliona, northern Peloponnese, due to anticipated hazardous weather conditions. 

Specifically, traffic towards Athens is being redirected for precautionary reasons, using a bidirectional flow on the Patras-bound lane, reported the Greek operating company Olympia Odos.

Higher toll station fees take effect

Higher toll fees at toll stations, in both major and auxiliary roads, increased on Greek roads as of January 1, 2024, following earlier announcements by concessionaires.

In Olympia Odos, the new fees implemented for vehicles affect the following highways: Patras-Athens, Antirrio-Ioannina, Corinth-Tripolis-Kalamata and the Lefktro-Sparta section, as well as the Rio-Antirrio bridge.

Moderate quakes rattle the city of Patra, western Greece

An earthquake rattled the city of Patra and other areas in the Achaia region, western Greece at approximately 11.25 a.m. on Sunday. 

According to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens, the earthquake had a 3.2 magnitude and its epicenter was located 13 kilometers south of Kato Achaia town, Peloponnese.

Section of Athens-Patra highway closed due to storm

The police on Thursday closed the Athens-bound lanes of the new Athens-Patras national highway to traffic at the 161st kilometre, in the Elaionas region, due to problems caused by the heavy rain in the area.

The old Athens-Patras national road has also been closed in both directions in the same area, while traffic has been diverted due to the bad weather at Metohi, Achaia.

Four life sentences for quadruple murderer

A mixed jury court in Patras has handed a man four life sentences after convicting him of the murder of four members of the same family in March 2022.

In a case that shocked the country, a 32-year-old father, a 37-year-old mother and their two children, aged 1.5 and 2.5, were found dead in their home in Andravida, a village in the Peloponnese region of Ilia.
