A Greek ferry tragedy in the Adriatic appeared to be turning into a murder mystery on Tuesday as a fiasco over the accuracy of the passenger list added to questions over safety systems aboard.
      

Major rescue operation underway after ferry catches fire off Corfu

A fire broke out on the car deck of a ferry carrying 478 people from Greece to Italy early Sunday, forcing authorities to order an evacuation.

Nearby ships have been instructed to take passengers and crew members from the ferry Norman Atlantic, west of the island of Corfu, said Merchant Marine Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis.

A Greek ferryboat with Bulgarian passengers on board has suffered an accident near the island of Corfu.

The ferry was traveling from Italy's Ancona to Patras in Greece with 692 passengers on board and a crew of 80 people.

All of the passengers have been transported to Corfu safely, according to reports of private TV station bTV, citing a relative of a Bulgarian passenger.
