Bulgarian President Considers Imposing No Veto over New BGN 16 B Debt

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev is not considering to impose veto on the issue of new BGN 16 B debt, which was approved by Parliament on Wednesday.

Plevneliev announced this after his participation at the awards ceremony of the Bulgarian forum of business leaders on Wednesday, daily Dnevnik reports.

Bulgarian Opposition Parties Organize Protests Against New BGN 16 B Debt

Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and the nationalists from Ataka organized protests on Wednesday regarding the proposal made by Financial Minister Vladislav Goranov on a new BGN 16 B debt.

Bulgarian Parliament is currently debating on the proposal and will either reject or approve it by the end of the day, while protesters outside of the building are screaming ''We will not pay!''.

Bulgaria's Debt Proposal 'Imposed from Outside to Finance War' - Nationalist Leader

Bulgaria is being imposed from abroad the EUR 8 B debt proposal now put forward for a vote in Parliament, nationalist Ataka party's leader Volen Siderov has argued.

Siderov has told the Bulgarian National Television that the prospective foreign borrowing is to be used "for military purposes".

Bulgaria's Transport Minister Replaces Director of Port Varna

Bulgarian Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski issued an order on Tuesday, ending the contract of the executive director of Port Varna Bozhidar Chaparov.

Chaparov, who had been appointed during the government of Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski, was also dismissed from the board of directors of the port, Darik radio reports.

Regional Minister Assures Winter Road Maintenance Is Provided For

Bulgaria's Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova assured that the winter maintenance of the roads has already been provided for.

She told the Darik national radio that the contracts with the road cleaning companies have been signed and all necessary supplies for gritting and deicing are stocked.

South Stream Bulgaria Halts Commissioning Activities

South Stream Bulgaria has announced it will suspended all public procurement activities and will not sign contracts related to the South Stream gas pipeline.

In a message to the media quoted by the website Dnevnik.bg, the Bulgarian-Russian joint venture has cited a recommendation from the European Commission to be behind the move.
