Lava cascaded down the Philippines' most active volcano on Sept. 17 as authorities rushed to evacuate thousands ahead of a possible deadly eruption.

An earthquake struck the region around Iceland's Bardarbunga volcano on Sept. 7 while fissures in the area continued to spew out lava but still none of the ash that could hamper airline traffic.
   

Iceland raised its aviation alert over the nation's largest volcano to red on Aug. 29, after the Bardarbunga peak began erupting overnight.

A ban on air traffic around the country's largest volcanic system was also put in place, but the authorities said there were no signs of spewing ash.

Two strong earthquakes on Aug. 24 shook Iceland's largest volcano, which is on red alert for imminent risk of eruption, the Icelandic Met Office said.
