Annual ritual at Sümela Monastery sparks debate
An annual ritual held on every Aug. 15 in the Sümela Monastery in the northern province of Trabzon has stirred controversy this year as some political parties requested its postponement, saying that the date coincides with the newly determined conquest day of the city.

Soumela Monastery mass going ahead after initial Turkish refusal
People gather for a mass held on August 15 last year by Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios, the spiritual leader of the world's Orthodox Christians, at the Holy Monastery of Panagia Soumela to mark the Dormition of the Mother of God in Turkey's Trabzon region, known to Greeks as Trapezounta.
Turkish authorities give permission for service at Sumela Monastery
The Ecumenical Patriarchate has announced that Turkish authorities have granted permission for a divine liturgy to be held at the former Orthodox Christian Sumela Monastery, located in the mountainous Trabzon region known to Greeks as Trapezounta, on August 15, feast day of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.
