Pope Francis landed in the Egyptian capital on April 28 to promote "unity and fraternity" with Muslims and Christians, who have suffered a series of jihadist attacks.
The visit is a "voyage of unity and fraternity," the pontiff told reporters before he disembarked in Cairo airport to be greeted by Catholic priests and Egyptian Prime Minister Sharif Ismail.

Pope Francis thanks Greek PM for aiding poor
Pope Francis thanked Greek PM Alexis Tsipras for his stance in favour of the poor and socially weak people, as wells his handling of the refugee crisis, during their brief meeting at the Vatican, Friday night.
The pontiff was speaking in Rome at an EU summit to highlight the 60th anniversary of the bloc’s foundation.

Roman Catholic priests empowered to “forgive” abortion sin
On Monday, Pope Francis extended the power of Roman Catholic priests to forgive the “grave sin” of abortion, in what has been described by some as a “signature gesture” from the Catholic Church’s just-ended Jubilee Year of Mercy.
The power to forgive abortion was a right previously reserved only for bishops or special confessors.
